Wondering what a session with Leigh Wilcoxson Photography is like? Read on.
One of the first things we do after getting you scheduled is to decide where you want to have your session. Since I work on-location and with natural light, we need to work in a well lit space, either indoors or outdoors, and where you are comfortable. For some people, that may be at a park or at a lake or surrounded by flowers in a garden. For others that may be snuggled up in their bedrooms or in their backyard or on their front porch. It’s really up to you where you want to be because this session is about you and who you are and what you love.
The second thing we decide is what time of day to shoot your session. Generally speaking, I shoot before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. In the height of summer, the earlier or later those times are, the better. If we are indoors, it’s not as important – as long as we have sunlight coming through a window, we are good. But outdoors we want to hit the hours where you are a lot less likely to squint, get funky under-eye shadows on your face or have a heat related illness incident from the strength of the sun.
Once we meet for your session, the most important thing for you to remember is to have fun. Be in love with your family. Be in the moment with your children or spouse or loved ones. Touch each other. Hug. Kiss. Tickle. Play. Romp. The more relaxed you are, the more we will capture those memories that you want to remember. I am a very laid back person and my preferred approach is one that involves less instruction and more observation behind the lens, waiting for that shot that I know you will want to remember.
After your session, your edited photos will be displayed in your own password protected, online gallery where you can view and order your photos from the comfort of your home. If you need help, I am just an email or phone call away, and I am always happy to answer any questions or help you envision your selected photos in your own home. I don’t play the pushy salesman, but rather, I will be your source of information and guidance if you need it.
A newborn session is a relaxed and comfortable experience for the newborn family. This session takes place in your home so you don’t have to leave the comfort and security of your house and expose the baby to varied temperatures, noises, and germs. I will bring blankets, wraps and optional accessories along with my camera gear and we will set up somewhere in your house that has good window light. This usually takes place in the nursery or parent’s bedroom/guest room, but I am flexible if those options are not available. My style of newborn sessions is natural and not posed. The less I have to move your baby, the happier your baby will be. Please take your time to feed, change or calm your a baby if he or she is fussy – I’m not tapping my toes. Parents are encouraged to be a part of this session if possible, and siblings are welcome to join in as well. Newborn sessions tend to take longer than a regular session for those reasons, but you will never be rushed. I encourage families to contact me in advance when they have a due date so I can pencil in a time frame on my calendar. A $25 non-refundable deposit will be required to get on my calendar. Half of the session fee is due on the day of your session, and the other half is due on the day your images are ready for download (so two payments of $175). Of course, babies arrive when they arrive, so I understand if your little one arrives early or late, but it helps give me a general idea of when to check in with you and set up details. I encourage newborn families to book their newborn session within the first 10 days of life. Babies at this stage are usually sleepier, less likely to startle and rarely have developed any newborn acne yet. However, I understand that sometimes this time frame does not work, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if your baby is older than 10 days. We can work with it.
