The Early Years

I met up with this sweet family at their home on a warm, sunny morning to take some family photos as well as document their youngest’s son’s third month. I am always reminded when I work with families of little ones how challenging those early months and years can be. Not for me, as the photographer, but as a parent. I sit on this end of life with two teenagers – one about to go off to college – and it seems so long ago that I was at the same stage of life, trying to soak up my babies and yet trying to not lose myself – and my sanity – in the process. There is so much to be thankful for and yet it’s all so exhausting, isn’t it?

Their oldest boy, who is almost two, was having a tough morning. Unbeknownst to us at the time, he was on the verge of coming down with something. These things are always discovered in hindsight, of course.¬†Grandma was on her way to save the day and I’m not sure who amongst them was happier to see her when she arrived. Grandmas have a special way of giving us parents some room to breathe in the early years. Thank you, grandma.
