The Early Years

I met up with this sweet family at their home on a warm, sunny morning to take some family photos as well as document their youngest’s son’s third month. I am always reminded when I work with families of little ones how challenging those early months and years can be. Not for me, as the photographer, but as a parent. I sit on this end of life with two teenagers – one about to go off to college – and it seems so long ago that I was at the same stage of life, trying to soak up my babies and yet trying to not lose myself – and my sanity – in the process. There is so much to be thankful for and yet it’s all so exhausting, isn’t it?

Their oldest boy, who is almost two, was having a tough morning. Unbeknownst to us at the time, he was on the verge of coming down with something. These things are always discovered in hindsight, of course. Grandma was on her way to save the day and I’m not sure who amongst them was happier to see her when she arrived. Grandmas have a special way of giving us parents some room to breathe in the early years. Thank you, grandma.
