The Lull

I have been a creative lull this past week. I can feel the edges of it starting to lift as I move towards new client shoots later this week, but I don’t like it when the lull hits.  I think the rain had something to do with it. And then Sydney came down with strep throat over the weekend, and I never like when my kids are sick.  It’s hard seeing them struggle and I feel drained from it.

So this evening around 6:30 the light was lovely and I took them down the street in our neighborhood to play in the remnants of the evening light. Neither of them were really interested in my photo plan and their cooperation level was comparable to their being asked to clean their rooms. As I was giving up trying to deal with their attitudes and began rounding them up to go home, we walked through a patch of trees where the sun was filtering through and I stopped and knew I found “the spot” for the photo.  Still being in somewhat unknown territory here in our new state,  I’ve been struggling to find “the spot” in places I wander upon.   But there was no question here.  There wasn’t much else around, but this spot…it gave light to the lull.
