They are just so darn cute, aren’t they?

I ended my line-up of sessions last week with a great senior guy who I have met a few times before but this was the first chance I had to get to know him a little more beyond the crowd of friends. If you have followed my work for any length of time and years, you know I love my seniors. I shouldn’t name favorites but if I was forced to choose one type of session that I could only shoot from now on, it would be a senior shoot. There is something so wonderful about this age group. They are standing on the edge of adulthood, ready to make that leap into the unknown. Maybe it’s nostalgia for me. I don’t know. But whatever it is, I get a kick out of it.
Soft spoken with a hint of mischievousness that only a 17-year-old “boy” can get away with, this senior guy is undecided about his post-graduation plans. Orthopedics, environmentalism, or business. I suggested combining it all and starting a business making environmentally conscientious recycled shoes. I don’t think he went for it. It’s okay. I think the idea will grow on him eventually. Maybe.
Here is to a bright future for an impressive young man, no matter what direction you head in. I am sure that whatever you do, you’ll make a success of it.

I think it was Testosterone Week for Leigh Wilcoxson Photography. Within three sessions I saw six boys that ranged in age from 2 to 17. If I ever felt I missed out on having a son, I made up for it this week.
I saw these guys last fall…two brothers and a cousin. The Three Amigos. The Three Stooges. The Three Musketeers. All fitting descriptions for three cute little guys.

I took my oldest daughter out tonight to try to get some images for her 13th birthday, which was two months ago. As usual, I’m a bit behind when it comes to personal things. But it was still close, right?
I have a bunch of great photos, but alas, lots of client work to edit first. Had to share just one though. Can’t believe how fast my baby is growing up. sniff sniff…

You know, having two girls, I see a fair share of drama on a daily basis at my house. For my oldest, it’s usually about hair, clothes and make-up, annoying little sisters and doing anything in a timely manner. For my youngest, it has to do with sitting still, mean big sisters and having to stop doing whatever it is she is doing to eat, leave or go to bed. There are a lot of squabbles and tattling. And someone always ends up in tears. This is my life with girls.
When I see this family, I get a pretty good insider’s view of what having boys is like. And then I go home and take a long nap. Because little boys are a lot like puppies…they play hard, they run fast and they are pretty much in a constant state of motion at any given point throughout the day. These two are no exception. Cute as can be. Like puppies after a shot of expresso. Hats off to you, Mom. My feet don’t move that quickly. I think I will stick to bad hair days and sneaking peeks at your sister’s diary. As long as I have kleenexes on hand, I’m usually all set.

Pretty sure there was some Halloween sugar running through their bloodstreams, but still managed to catch a still moment here and there for a smile or two…

I don’t normally scoff at gray days for photoshoots. Some of my sweetest sessions have been on “sun”less days. There are no shadows from sunny angles to deal with so sometimes it makes a shoot even better. As long as the client doesn’t mind it, I am game.
We had one of those days for this session. Gray and dreary looking. Very blah scenery except for the bright red pop in their clothing and the smiles on their faces. Nothing can keep this family from making their own sunshine and radiating their warm personalities. And that’s just what they did. Knocked those October grays right out of the park.

I had the joy of photographing three gorgeous sisters and their pretty mama, too. We had a pretty day downtown, which for this time of the year, you thank your lucky stars for that when it happens. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the weather will be good for my remaining sessions this year. Double crossed. These girlies are such silly, goofy girls with uniquely fun personalities. They were a treat to photograph. I give them a gold star of excellence.
